afghan-yakash-kazak-rug-1
Afghan Yakash Kazak Rug

This is a brand new authentic Yakash Kazak rug, handmade in Afghanistan.

Originally, Kazak rugs were produced in the Caucasus region of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. However, these designs have been revived and reinterpreted in Afghanistan. They are woven in the northern cities of Mazari-Sharif, Sheberghan, and Andkhoy.

These rugs are known for their intricate geometric design consisting of medallions, 'sunburst' or snowflake-like emblems, and hooked polygons. They use various colours including reds, blues, browns, greens and beige. These high contrast colours differ from less saturated Afghan rugs.

They are woven using the asymmetrical Turkish (Ghiordes) knot and often have a medium-low pile to bring out the detailed fine design. This is especially true for 'Super Kazak' rugs which are much more detailed than Yakash Kazak rugs. They also use finer wool, which gives the rugs a lustre.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0939/9350/1054/files/IMG_5854_f34815bc-0c6d-4018-bb1e-49f1d48500d9.jpg?v=1774033142
